Brand new to the game? This is the class for you. Our instructors will demystify the game and breakdown the fundamentals. In this 90-minute session, you will learn how to: identify tiles and suits, read the National Mah Jongg League (NMJL) card, build the wall and understand the flow of play.
Tailored to beginners who know the basics. (Mahj 101 strongly recommended as a prerequisite!). We will focus on game rules and build independent play skills. In this 90-minute session you will learn how to: read the NMJL card more fluently, understand exposure decisions and play a full round with minimal intervention.
Practice, with support.
Guided Open Play is the perfect bridge between lessons and playing on your own. You’ll play full games in a relaxed setting, with an instructor nearby to answer questions, offer gentle prompts, and help things click in real time. (90 minutes)
This is where confidence builds and the game starts to feel natural.
For confident players seeking improvement and looking to elevate their play through strategy, table awareness and defense. This 90-minute session will prepare you to: choose hands strategically, read opponents’ intentions, play defensively and offesively and reduce the dreaded dead hand.
Give the gift of mahj.
Give the gift of learning, playing, and enjoying American mahjong. Five Mile Mahj gift cards can be used toward lessons, guided open play, strategy sessions, or private instruction.
